RACE REPORT | MotoGP France 2023

In a thrilling French MotoGP at Le Mans, Marco Bezzecchi clinched victory ahead of Jorge Martin, while home favourite Johann Zarco secured a podium spot after Marc Marquez made a late mistake.

The race was not without drama as title leader Francesco Bagnaia and Maverick Vinales collided early on, sending both riders down into the gravel trap. Vinales confronted Bagnaia, resulting in a heated exchange between the two riders before being separated by officials.

Another scary incident occurred when Luca Marini saved a lowside with his elbow, only to be hit by Alex Marquez. Fortunately, both riders escaped unharmed.

Bezzecchi managed to avoid the earlier crash and secured the lead midway through the race, holding off Marquez, Martin, and Zarco who fought for the remaining podium positions. Marquez eventually lost control of his bike and crashed out on the penultimate lap.

Rookie Augusto Fernandez secured a memorable fourth place, while Fabio Quartararo finished seventh. Jack Miller, who led early on, struggled and eventually crashed out, while his teammate Brad Binder received a long lap penalty.

Marquez was cleared to return to MotoGP after being ruled out of previous races due to a thumb fracture. Meanwhile, Danilo Petrucci returned to MotoGP action to replace the injured Enea Bastianini.

Miguel Oliveira was absent due to injury, and his place was taken by Lorenzo Savadori. Pol Espargaro was also absent due to injuries sustained in a previous race, and he hopes to return in June.
